Submissions

Deadline:
We are opened for submissions to the Fall ’25 Mini-Issue. The theme for submissions is spooky! What does spooky mean? Whatever you want! Give us camp, give us thriller, give us ghosts in a tea shop, give us horror–we want it all! Submissions will close October 13th at 11:59pm.
How to Submit:
The magazine will be accepting submissions by email: send your work as an attachment to windfallmagazine@gmail.com. When attaching documents, please rename files to include your last name, the submission type, and piece title (i.e. “Smith Prose – Title”). Please do not put your name or identifying information in the text or artwork itself to preserve anonymity.
What to Submit:
We accept poetry, fiction, creative nonfiction, drama, and art (photography, mixed media, sculpture, ceramics, prints, paintings, etc). Windfall is looking for the best Truman students have to offer. Therefore, please only submit work that is in a finished form. If you are submitting a non-fiction work, please use your best judgment in concerning real people. If you feel the persons named in your story would be uncomfortable being mentioned in a publication, then please change the names or obtain permission from those concerned before submitting. Windfall holds the author responsible for the any material submitted. Windfall does not accept anything including pornographic or excessively violent material. Windfall does not accept submissions that contain specific identifying information about Truman students or faculty.
Please allow us until the end of the submission period to review your work. If you do not hear from us within two-four weeks after submissions close, you are more than welcome to contact us and ask for an update on your submission.
Length:
Due to printing constraints, we request that any single prose piece be no more than 10 pages long, double spaced, and in Times New Roman font. We strongly encourage that each author submit no more than 12 pages of poetry, 20 pages of prose, or 25 pages total for poetry and prose. For artwork, we ask that you submit no more than 15 pieces. Truman has a large swath of work to offer, and we want as many voices to be heard as possible.
For artwork and photography, please be aware that we have a limited amount of colored pages, and take that into consideration when selecting pieces to submit.
Privacy:
All pieces are shown anonymously to the Windfall staff.
By outlining these guidelines, we at Windfall hope to encourage you as the author/artist to more carefully consider what you want to submit. We hope that you take pride in each piece that you give to our consideration.
This page is subject to change. Submission to the magazine is considered consent to the guidelines.
